Shane Farthing is an attorney, policy professional, and community advocate who currently serves as Senior Director of Active Transportation Programs and leader of the Research-to-Practice team at Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. In this role, Mr. Farthing champions data-driven approaches to get people biking and walking and thereby improve neighborhood connectivity, health, and sustainability.

Previously, he served as Senior Advisor to the Planning Board of Montgomery County, Maryland; Executive Director of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association; and Director of the District of Columbia's Office of Green Economy. In each of those roles, he has worked to make the built environment more sustainable, equitable, and humane.

Mr. Farthing holds degrees in Religious Studies, Law, and Public Policy. He lives and works in Washington, DC and spends most of his free time far from cell service: reading, writing, biking, hiking, and kayaking.
